Hi Steemit family!

I couldn't resist doing another publication on another great reptile. In truth they are too fascinating to leave them aside. I myself would think twice before catching a snake, although surely there is more than one daring snake lover out there who can manipulate them without any concern. But today's snake is really one of the most lethal. Besides being an icon for both Asian culture and the rest of the world, it is one of the most elegant looking snakes and its shape has been used as a symbol for many things, from car names to tattoos. I'm talking about the real cobra, a beauty of a snake which I'm going to describe to you in detail now. Come with me on this journey of knowledge.

This surprisingly beautiful snake lives in Burma and India, where for thousands of years it has coexisted with humans. The cobra is a reptile that belongs to the suborder of snakes, and by the shape of its tubular fangs belongs to the family of elapids.

It can get be up to 5 meters long in its adult state while the younger ones measure up to 3 meters. In reality it is very hard for them to get to 5 meters long. Its scaly skin is perfectly adorned with yellow bands and its tail is of a deep black. This snake has an unusual characteristic which is different from other species of snakes: it has an image similar to a hood or something similar, and when it is in an attack position, one can notice this facet that intensifies the fear in humans and other prey.

source

The real cobra is a jungle snake. Usually this species lives in humid places such as swamps and where there are many shrubs or weeds. The cobra is related to other similar species that are in much of the Asian continent, especially in the tropics.

source

As for its food, the royal cobra feeds only and exclusively on other snakes, while the rest of species of the cobra family feed on other reptiles such as rodents, lizards among others.

When our snake feels threatened or when she is hunting, she projects her body and manages to get up from the ground until she is almost motionless while she emits a sharp whistle.

Her poison is very powerful and lethal – it has been catalogued as one of the most poisonous and dangerous snakes in the world. Once it visualizes its prey, it attacks it by biting with its tubular fangs which inject the poison into the prey leaving it paralyzed, then it swallows it in a hurry, before locating a comfortable place where it can digest its victim.

Although not everything is abundant in its habitat, sometimes finding food is very difficult, so this snake can go months without a single bite to eat, being forced to limit itself to consuming its own body fat.

The female is one of the few snakes that carefully chooses a strategic place to make a nest, just as a bird looks for branches and weeds to make a nest before the breeding season approaches. Males and females alike give off a smell through hormones that produce glands specialized in fertility. The female can lay 20 to 50 eggs.

source

A bite from a cobra baby is as lethal as that of an adult, this is because they are born with the fangs and their glands are fully developed, so they are very independent from birth.

source

They have a problem with temperature. Well actually all reptiles are susceptible to climate change, in the case of cobra this problem is a serious one since when although they can survive in relatively high temperatures, a heat wave in a dry season can kill them, and the cold of the rainy season makes them very slow.

source

Even though this snake lethal, it is unlikely that it will attack us, in fact very few cases of real cobra bites have been recorded. As soon as they sense a human presence, they flee quickly from the site, although you still wouldn't want to touch it because it is unlikely that you will arrive alive at the hospital.
