Molted Dragonfly Nymph Shells

"IT CAME FROM THE CREEK!"

The tunnel that the creek runs through is about 200 feet long and dotted along the insides of it are these husks attached to the wall. They are all facing upward and are stuck to the wall pretty well. Many of the ones in the tunnel at the moment are older molts that have been there for a while. I have only seen a couple newer looking molts in my looking.

Each molt is about 2 inches long so this is likely one of the larger dragonfly species. We have a number of different dragonflies around but tend towards far more Damselflies in the recent years. The husk is extremely light weight and floats on the water when it falls. In the back, behind the head, is the exit point where the dragonfly emerged from the nymph.

I've been mulling over in my head the possibility of taking a bunch of these and trying to fill them up with resin. They are a hollow shell so there is room to fill. It might be hard to clean them effectively enough first though. I think they would be cool to make into little dragonfly nymph action figure kind of things. My nymph army!
