A while ago, and after four thousand years after the extinction of the mammoth, US scientists revealed that they are trying to "revive" to one of the animals most emblematic prehistoric, along with the dinosaurs.
The mammoth inhabited the planet from the late Miocene to the end of the Pleistocene. There are several theories about the reason for its disappearance: at some point it was said to be fault of human, but the most solid hypothesis speak metabolic problems and the disappearance of prairies of which is fed.
The plan to bring back the mammoth to life is a combination of complex genetic engineering with a powerful editor of genes called Crispr.
The scientists who carried out the process revealed his plan during a Conference of the American Association for the advancement of science (AAAS, by its acronym in English). The professor in charge of the investigation called George Church
The main idea of the scientists is to create an Hybrid embryo, by inserting the typical characters of the mammoth in the genes of an Asian elephant, the closest to the old animal relative. In this way, the result would not be genetically a mammoth, but a "mamut-elephant", genetically similar to the elephant but outwardly similar to the prehistoric Mastodon.
Professor Church told the British newspaper The Guardian that even taken the process to obtain the embryo which brings together genes from the elephant with the characteristics of the mammoth, but which could do it within two years.
Some believe that this animal not should be called mammoth, but "mamufante", because it would still be an elephant, but with the typical features of the prehistoric Mastodon (small ears, subcutaneous fat, a distinctive long hair and blood that is adapted to the low temperatures).
and that was all they say about this project
