Easiest to make tick repellent - tested&confirmed

in nature •  8 years ago

Hello Steemians.

As an angler, and passionate mushrooms lover, ive been dealing with ticks for long long time. We all have our own ways to repel or to get rid of those bloodsuckers, but we should never stop learning about new ways of doing things.

I would like to say ‚‚thank you very much" to the lady who told me about clove and its effect on ticks, but ive never got the chance to know her name. Our 2 groups met in the middle of nowhere, while i was removing incredibly small tick from my forearm. She said she didnt seen a tick for the last 20 years spent in mushrooms hunting, thanks to clove only, and told me the recipe.

Its very simple.

50 g of whole dried clove
1 L of warm water

Shake it.
Leave it 10 minutes.

There it is.

For now, its the cheapest, most efficient, easiest to make tick repellent ive ever tried.

I can say its confirmed now, because ive didnt seen a tick since i am using it. People around me, who doesnt use repellents are getting their portion of bites and removals, but im still waiting to see one crawling on me.

One more thing - clove tea is also very effective against mosquitoes. If you are going to test it against flying bloodsuckers, trick is - it lasts 20 min only. If there is no strong enough smell, they start landing again. Im going to try to adjust the recipe, like, 150 g per 0.5 l of water for mosquiteos, and see if it works for a longer time.

3rd good thing about clove tea is - it smells just great =)

Try it, and if it works with your local ticks too, spread the word!

Thank you!

Very Nice post! Great info! Thank you for posting this. Followed! :)

Thanks! Im gonna try adding cinnamon too, @drpuffnstuff gave me an interesting idea.

Hmm. Well Let me know how that goes! I'm interested to know! :)

Will have to try it. Ticks are becoming such a problem along the northern beaches area of Sydney where I live. I love being in the bush but it's becoming such a dangerous area to 'play' in.

I usually use oils like neem and teatree and lavender ~ But will add the clove tea to the arsenal. Thanks so much.

You are welcome. Just have in mind, tea wears off faster than oil. No matter how strong it is, must be used more often

This is fabulous! Thank you for sharing this treasure of wisdom my friend :) upvoted, resteemed & following. I will be testing out the clove remedy soon!

Much Love & Bright Blessings!

Thanks a lot! I am already pain in the ass to all my friends, forcing them to try it (testing on people actually lol). And i am curious about how to make it last even longer, so after i do some chemistry, im planning to make several bottles with spray, paint it, and make useful gifts from my fishermen and mushroom hunters. =) Its great because its cheap, and easy to find.

Thanks, will make a batch B4 heading out west..
They are claiming that the tick pop is on the rise this year..
Could be fear mongering though..
Pretty typical from the Lame Steam News..

Try it, and please report if it works :) I know mosquitoes has different tastes, depending on geographical location. i would like to know if it works worldwide.

Thanks. Not very clear, for the tick you don't need to make it tea, but for the mosquito you do? Just soak whole pieces of clove in warm water and then spray it?

YW, its the same for both mosquitoes and ticks, just mosquitoes somehow get past it when it starts to lose its strong aroma. I would recommend making stronger tea for mosquitoes, or just spraying it more often.

Will clove essential oil work?

i guess it would be way better, but ive never seen any to buy here and i believe the price is way higher for smaller amount of repellent?

ya probably, but with essential oil you can dilute them in water and they still work.. SO im not sure. I have on guard essential oil and it has clove and cinnamon bark in it

Awesome post. I will have to give it a try as I spend a lot of time out in the bush. Thanks and followed.
