Psychedelic, Poisonous or Portabella? #2

What kind of mushroom is this? Is it edible, toxic or hallucinogenic? I'm not going to eat it either way but I found it in my local park and mushrooms fascinate me.

The Amatuer Mycologolist has heard your call.

So my friend that is a very beautiful, healthy specimen of the genus Boletus. Depending on where you are in the world it could be a wide variety of Boletus species, although a cursory glance brings to mind Boletus bicolor

However I am never satisfied with cursory glances as one can never be sure that way. If you'd like a fun intellectual experiment, click on the first link in my comment and learn how to identify that and any other mushroom yourself.

I can tell you though that, as far as I know, there are no psychoactive species of Boletus. There are also, as far as I know, no deadly toxic ones, although severe allergic reactions are always possible on an individual basis. A couple of Boletus will nonetheless make you wish you'd not been born for a few days, which is why i never tell anyone to eat their finds.

If you have any question, shoot away!

Awesome info @dber ! Thanks! I'll definitely have to use that site for my future findings :)

I hope so - if you ever have any questions about a find just leave a comment on the most recent of my mycology posts with some pictures and we can try to work it out together.

Says it's edible, but don't eat it. I can't positively identify a mushroom with one picture.
