Why is the sky blue?

When the weather is sunny during the day, we'll see the blue sky. But in the afternoon, the sky will be reddish yellow. Maybe many of us do not know the cause. we only know if the sky is blue, it's a sign that the day has started in the morning and if the sky is reddish yellow it's the sign of the afternoon.

Sky during the day

The cause of the sky color was not separated from the influence of our earth's atmosphere. Gas molecules such as nitrogen, oxygen, argon and water vapor cause sunlight consisting of variations in absorbable wavelengths. This absorbed light will radiate to produce a color spectrum. Although the entire wavelength of the sunlight is absorbed, the blue color that has a low wavelength will be absorbed more than the red color so that the blue color is dominant seen by the eye.

The sky in the afternoon

This process is called Rayleigh scattering. Rayleigh explains that light that has a smaller wavelength will have a greater intensity of the spin. Because the blue color has a small wave span so the blue will be dominant in the sky. In addition, this color change is also affected by the distance of the light source with the observer so that at sunset, the distance of the light source will go further and cause the effect of Rayleigh scattering effect by the blue color is reduced. This process can be seen clearly at sunset, where the red color will be dominant in the horizon line.
