There is particular geological formation called “earth pyramids” across South Tyrol in northern Italy. These are tall cone shaped pillars which are made up of clay having boulder on top.
It is believed that these structures formed after the last Ice Age when the glaciers melted. These originated from morainic rocks. This phenomenon usually develops after landslide. The main reason of the earth pyramids formation is the constant alteration of heavy rain and drought. The heavy rains eroded the ground and such earth pyramids evolved.
The columns become elongated and higher and become thinner and usually at the top there is stone cover. These pyramids are not static and continuously growing. Even if they collapse, there is always room for new formations. The life of earth pyramids depends on the climate.

Hello! Interesting post and cool photos. FYI - the geomorphic name of these features are a "hoodoo". The composition of these are generally "till" and are formed from glacial deposition. They are really common in places that were glaciated during the last ice age.
Hope this helps and great photos!
