The more I learn about this plant, the more I love it!!!
Mullein is an incredible wild herb with a wide variety of uses. We are growing some here to help build up our pastures, plus, we like to have it on hand to use herbally too. In this video, I share a bit about how we first came to appreciate the plant, and also some interesting info about the plant in general. We also now offer the seeds for sale in our Homesteader's Co-op store!
Mullein, natures toilet paper.
Works well to outcompete invasives but will easily take over. At least it can be pulled easily. Stuff spreads like wildfire.

I found a huge mullein plant near our studio the summer after we moved here, but interestingly, I've never spotted it again, though it could certainly be growing further into the woods.
I do have seed for it, so I'll get some started come spring.
I had heard about using mullein leaves for tea and poultices, and as a makeshift toilet paper, as well as using it to break up hardpan clay soils, but I hadn't heard about the crushed seeds being used to stun fish. Our ancestors were a creative and canny lot.
I'm about to plant out a bunch of comfrey root, which can also be invasive, but I bought rootstock of Bocking 14, so though they bloom profusely, they won't set viable seed. I'm hoping that planting them in our orchard and mulching with the leaves will help our fruit trees to be more resilient in high heat conditions.
But the mullein is yet another project that we have in common, that I've been researching for a while, and thus really appreciate the timing of your post.
Blessings to you and yours!

We use the flower pod and leaves to brew a decongestant tea for colds and asthma. Sometimes we toss in a bit of chamomile too.
