Nature Art Journaling - Turkey Tail Mushrooms 🍁🦃🍁

The day had started out warm and overcast and I put on a pair of shorts. Strange weather for November. By afternoon, it had turned quite chilly so I assumed that my friend who was coming for our nature journaling session would want to draw from some collected specimens inside with a warm cup of tea, so I hiked into the forest and gathered a few things. When she arrived, she was determined that we should work outside because she wanted to capture in watercolors the leaves at their peak of autumn color. I changed and put on a coat and scarf and filled my insulated cup with chai.

I set about recreating the scene of a log covered with Turkey Tail Mushrooms that I had just gathered. The Latin name is trametes versicolor. There have been major clinical trials confirming its healing and immune modulating properties. Our forest seems to be a Turkey Tail factory. They are scattered randomly all over on fallen logs and stumps.

I wish I had gotten pictures of her beautiful paintings, but as the late afternoon got dim and misty, she suggested that it was time to go inside and have a nice glass of wine and some snacks, and she left them outside to dry. It was a bit dark to take a good photo of them. We spent the next hour or so talking about fun esoteric topics and sipping our wine...my kind of afternoon.
