The unknown emotional capabilities of Orca ~ PART 1

in nature •  7 years ago  (edited)

The curious nature of orca is bewildering & to this day I learn something new every time I spend time with these animals in their natural habitat. Their incredible strong social family bonds, which we believe makes them the most socially connected species on the planet ~ even more so than ourselves. Gives us a small glimpse and understanding that they are indeed very, very emotional animals and their known social bonds with their family pod is due to this high emotional capability.

There are even some (including myself), which believe they have emotional capabilities that we still are unable to comprehend to this day. A theory that a good friend and colleague Pierre Robert de Latour, whom has been interacting with wild orca in the water for the past two decades, has is that their ability to sense and project emotions is a powerful adaptation that is yet to be understood and embraced. I completely agree with him on this theory & and strongly believe there is an important element to their emotional capabilities that we could greatly benefit from. It could be that it is something they are saying to us yet we are not listening ~ perhaps we simply just think too much?

What do you think Steem Community?
Do these majestic animals have a sense or emotional ability we are yet to "discover", understand & embrace?
Or am I just slightly crazy...?

This is an interesting post! I’ve viewed your page and checked out your content! I like it! Keep Going!

thank you! I shall do my best

Very informative and interesting article. You have given a human voice to these great sensitive cetaceans!
Have you ever heard of the False Killer Whale? I didn't until last year.
Very cool post
Lynn

thank you! It is hard not to give them a human voice when you see the similarities between them and ourselves. I have heard of them but yet to encounter them in the wild as of now. im sure this will change in the near future though

I just love the ocean and all creatures that reside in the deep blue sea. I have never considered orcas being more sociable than humans but I had always suspected that we have not yet fully actualised our full potential as human beings in forming meaningful and long lasting bonds. Whales have always fascinated me as the gentle giants they are. Now I am even more intrigued by them.

Have been to the oceans of South Africa?

not yet. I am planning on getting there soon - I just need to find enough time to spend there in order to do those oceans justice

Do document it when you're hear. I'd love to follow you on that journey. I live inland and I only have been to the coasts three times in my life so I haven't explored the oceans at home but I would love to. I'd do that through you for now until I am able to do it myself. Maybe I'll see and orca or two.

absolutely! I hope you do get the chance to make your way to the coast to encounter these animals for yourself one day soon.

I really like that side of people when they stand out, how wonderful is nature, excellent work Tom, greetings from Venezuela

Can they also go to my post and give me good votes or only whales do that? Hahahahha

I agree that, like we do with the orcas, we are almost completely unaware of what we could learn from the animals if we only took time to try and understand what they are telling us through their sounds and actions. Perhaps the day is near, when methods for understanding their language will be perfected, that will allow us to understand what they have to offer us, and maybe make the world a better place for all life.

Cetacean intelligence refers to the cognitive capabilities of the Cetacea order of mammals. This order includes whales, porpoises, and dolphins.

yep. the order of Cetacea consists of Mysticeti (baleen whales) & Odontoceti (Toothed-whales)....

Such a beautiful creature. Tragic to see them locked up at the likes of sea world.
