A bird flew high between the trees
Gently in the new summer breeze
When a hunter she saw, with bow
To him these words she did bestow

If birds at all you have to slay
from my children please stay away
with the sweetest voices they call
the most beautiful birds of all

With feeling the hunter agreed
to hold up to the mother's plead
The bird elated flew away
death would spare her children today

But come nightfall she looked around
for her children could not be found
they where nowhere, not in her view
at last to the hunter she flew

She met the hunter on his land
Three birds dead he had in his hand
The hunter roared about his catch
of these little birds he did snatch

But as the bird began too weep
a terrible feeling did creep

No! said the hunter and stood tall
These were ugliest of them all!

The bird replied amidst her cry
You might think that, but not I
You stupid hunter, can't you see
A mother thinks best of her own three!
