At a time when ecological consciousness is awakening and where the need to stem pollution is urgent, it is important to value organic alternatives, BioNylon, a plant nylon, reduces the use of oil, one of the most polluting resources.

A 100% biological nylon polymer :

Rennovia achieved, in 2013, the manufacture of a biological nylon 6,6 polymer, a 100% vegetable nylon. This invention was made possible by the combination of RENNLON ™ adipic acid and RENNLON ™ hexamethylenediamine (HMD or HMDA).

Adipic acid and HMD were made from glucose, using the chemical catalytic process, a technology peculiar to Rennovia. In order to obtain adipic acid, they carried out an aerobic oxidation of glucose which led to the production of glucaric acid, which then underwent hydrodeoxygenation, in order to produce the adipic acid.

Bio-HMDA is also produced by hydrodeoxygenation of glucose, the resulting key intermediate undergoes an amination which leads to the production of the bio-HMDA.

Economically interesting

These plant materials, in addition to being ecological, are economical since their production costs are about 20 to 25% lower than those using polluting materials such as oil

Nylon, due to its resistance, lightness and high temperature performance, is used in many fields such as automotive, its large market represents several 1.2 million Dollar. Nylon is also widely used in fiber applications, including fabric.

Eco-friendly music

This invention has especially succeeded in seducing musicians who, concerned about their impact on the environment, have created nylon guitar strings vegetal. These ropes are certainly not 100% organic, but they are still made of 68% castor oil, which already reduces their environmental impact.

Less polluting than ropes made from nylon from petrochemicals, they are, according to the musicians who tried them, no less efficient, although they offer a different sound.

They also find online demonstration videos that allow us to make an idea ourselves, the brand Aquila, an Italian brand, today offers a range of strings in BioNylon for all types of instruments.
