New Orleans city park, getting lost in the live oaks.

in naturephotography •  7 years ago  (edited)

Before moving to Athens, I lived in New Orleans for 6 years. My absolute favorite place in the whole city was City Park. A vast area covered in old live oaks dressed in Spanish moss. It was a truly enchanting place. Here is a selection of pictures I took throughout the years on 3 different cameras (a Canon 5D digital SLR, a 35mm Minolta X-700 film camera, and my trusty Iphone). I hope they will help transport you to this beautiful place!

The second photo is also my entry in the mundane as art competition. This weeks theme is moss and lichen :)

These are amazing photos, they have a sort of beautiful sadness. That is how I sort of think of New Orleans, though I have never been. Like it is a city that has seen such tragedy but soldiers on in spite of hardship.

I love statuary and parks. When I was in London, I walked in Hyde Park as much as possible. There is something about the vast green spaces filled with ponds and statues and picnic goers in the center of a city that has an 'other worldy' or 'another time' quality to it.

Thank you! And there definitely is a beautiful sadness to New Orleans, you can definitely feel it in City Park. On the other hand though there is also a vibrant and upbeat vibe in parts of the city with costumes, art, music, and parades happening constantly. Its a very unique place!

And I agree about parks, I love the escape to nature that large parks provide. Hyde Park is indeed beautiful, Golden Gate park in San Francisco is another one of my favorites :)

Wonderful shots!! Well done!

Thank you so much!

I love the iphone shot of the stump, great depth!

that one was actually done with my fancy digital camera, sorry I just realized the captions were kind of confusing! going to try to fix it now :)

I wish my iphone could shoot like that!

Digging the photos. Been once. Stayed in between Frenchmen Street and Bourbon Street. Definitely must visit again for more charbroiled oysters. Woooo!
