The debut gameplay trailer of NBA 2K24 has been released by Visual Concepts, showcasing the improvements in this year’s edition of the popular basketball video game. One of the major changes is that shooting and dribbling will be more accessible to players of all skill levels, allowing for more scoring opportunities. A new blowout dribble move has also been introduced, which gives players a burst of speed when the sprint trigger is tapped while moving.
On the defensive side, countermoves have been improved, with perimeter and paint defense playing a more important role in NBA 2K24. Defensive movement has been enhanced for better responsiveness and reduced sliding, and directional steals have returned, requiring players to reach with the correct hand closest to the ball. The contest logic has also been updated to address the ‘ghost contact’ issue in previous games.
Blocking now requires proper timing, as players must wait for the right moment to attempt a block. Takeover, a popular feature, is making a return in NBA 2K24, allowing players to activate various abilities once the Takeover meter is filled. Visual Concepts has also introduced a new ‘substitution engine’, which ensures that top scorers are kept on the floor by the AI.
The standout feature of NBA 2K24 is the ProPLAY technology, which directly translates real NBA footage to generate authentic movements of players like Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and Nikola Joki. This technology makes the game look and feel more believable, enhancing the overall authenticity. However, ProPLAY and other features will only be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, with cross-play being introduced for the first time in the franchise.
NBA 2K24 is set to launch on September 8th, and it will be available on various platforms, including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC (with limited features).
