Sew much fun... NOT! 🀣steemCreated with Sketch.

To say that I'm a seamstress is not just a huge exaggeration but also very funny... πŸ™„

However, recently a friend that left the island gifted me a very snazzy, almost brand new sewing machine. I tried to decline very politely but she wouldn't have any of it. So today saw me taking it out of the box in an attempt to figure out how it works.

Firstly let me say... I had the machine back to front for about 30-40 minutes trying to figure out with the help of the manual why this machine looked different than shown in the booklet. I hang my head in shame. When I eventually figured I had the wrong side towards me I felt pretty stupid.πŸ€” πŸ˜‚

Take note... ⬇️ This is the wrong side.. πŸ˜‚

I had to start from scratch after that although by now my patience had worn thin trying to find what I was looking for.

After my first botched attempt to thread a bobbin I was close to giving up but I tried my best to persevere.

Check the one on the left... Woo-hoo. I did it.

Sewing is not something that comes naturally to me as I've got a heap of other traits and talents that I would rather explore but having received this ginormous gift I feel compelled to at least give it a try.

I have a mother in law and two sisters in law that are amazing with sewing, knitting, crocheting and other hand crafted items whereas I'm more of a woodwork and cement work crafter.

Last year however my sils decided I had to learn to crochet and it was OK because they were there to help me with the basics. This time I'm on my own. Solo.. Me, myself and I, the manual and some 'Sewing for beginners' videos on YouTube.

I even went and purchased some stuffs in order to do this thing! When I told my 19 year old daughter I'm buying bobbins she had no idea what it was. I was stumped. I have tried sewing years ago and even had a machine and went for some lessons but that was a bust. I gave the machine away to someone that needed it more than I did.

Bobbins and needles

Once I finally managed to thread the machine correctly (hopefully) I took a small piece of material to see whether I succeeded in doing it right.

Low and behold... I could stich a straight line.

First attempt at sewing in nearly 20 years. πŸ˜…

After proceeding to this point I decided to give my poor brain a rest. It was a lot of info to process for the morning and there's plenty of time to try again now that I know the bare basics and can go from there.

I don't mean to be rude, but I couldn't help to laugh that you had the machine back to front πŸ˜„

Glad you figured it out. And good idea on testing the stitches. I always run a test section on some scrap fabric when I try out a new stitch.

If you can sew then I'm impressed!! I'll take it a little bit at a time.. 😁 Thanks for the tip and for stopping by ☺️

I love your very humble approach - and that you are brave enough to share your gaffs with us too. I do hope you get to grips with sewing. It's very fun and can save you a bundle of money!

πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ I'm only to happy I could make someone laugh. I felt such a dufus. πŸ˜‚ But it's OK. One needs to start somewhere. Thank you for stopping by ☺️

Yessssss and a new tag agsin. Needlework was my first love here , and did alot so great to see the blog Well done and you are a busy bee

Lol, I'd experience the same thing if I have that too :D

How nice is this - you got a sewing machine for free and you are brave to try it out again. I have won a sewing machine some years ago and before I was not interested in sewing at all. But because of this win, I started to try. I am still beginner and sewing does not come naturally to me (I could have made the same mistake as you) but I learned enough to sew a decent sweater, shirt or a simple dress.
I hope you will find joy in your new sewing machine and perhaps we here more of you next Monday.
