The 21st century calls for new ways to value ethics. These should be adapted to a global and connected society, and reflect our diversity. New technologies can help us. Everyday, an incredible amount of information is stored, which traces transactions, clicks, likes and dislikes. And this represents an extraordinary potential to evaluate the impact of our actions. But data alone has no value. This value we should define together.
Nemethics vision in brief
We believe ethics is not just a topic for philosophy lectures and experts. We believe that ethical thinking fuels sustainable economy, drives smart investments and stimulates individual prosperity. We believe that the young generations recognize that caring is eventually also a matter of self-interest. We want to promote such ethical thinking with the support of modern technologies.
A decentralized organizational approach
At Nemethics we want to stimulate and foster ethical behaviour, but we resist to claim this through a central system. Our first objective is simply to host and moderate the development of a decentralized, collaborative process that creates a new ethical framework.
In our understanding decentralization is a key feature that is in line with successful concepts of collaboration. A modern example is the Blockchain, which offers a safe and transparent way to exchange data, with no top down control. We believe these features are key to reach an universal agreement on what ethics means.
The role of Nemethics core team
As a first step, our core team will push this idea forward by describing the vision and suggesting possible implementations. This website, and its blog, should therefore be seen as a platform for a very open discussion. Any individual, young or old, being actor in the field of ethics or not, having stakes in the project or not, is welcome to express his ideas. We hope you will help us shape a useful tool for you, us and everyone.
The blog's goal
In our blog (and herewith actually on steemit!), we will bring up ideas and concepts to be discussed in public, with the community that wants to follow and shape the vision. Its not about finished solutions and theoretical constructions, but rather experimenting. Nemethics' vision roots in nowadays society and its current problems. It is motivated by a desire for change, that manifests in all parts of the globe. Hence we understand our actions as the support of an ongoing worldwide process. How exactly this process and its result will look like? We don't know, and we are happy to get your opinion and involve anyone who wants to contribute. So what are your suggestions concerning our framework? What are the tools to be used? Are there possibilities to involve a Blockchain technology and organize such a decentralized community development from early on? Let's try and answer that together. Just join Nemethics to develop decentralized Ethics for the 21st Century in our collective approach. You may be part of the first movers and contribute here on steemit ;-)
Interesting and challenging development of ethics. Could it be seen as a technological approach to create new ethical rules?

I guess the idea is to define a "standard" for ethics to which a maximum of people could agree. This will of course be imperfect. But the important thing is that it may challenge some other standards (pure productivity, return on investment, to name just a few). In that sense, even though it is imperfect, it may not be much worse ;)
Technology is definitely and great tool to help us in that direction. Of course, new ethical rules are not going to emerge from AI. Our idea is that if we try and define what we consider as ethics all together, more people will value (and use) it.

Very good point that artificial intelligence (AI) will probably not be able to come up with ethical rules or decisions. This part might be the fundamental and unique talent that can only be provided by human beings. If blockchains, AIs and other software will relieve us humans from a lot of painful work, we rather keep this job in our hands. I guess its also much more fun and "fulfilling" anyways ... still we have to create the technological tools that help us on this; so welcome to Nemethics ;-)
