Nepalese Thankga Artists
A Thangka is a traditional Buddhist painting done on cotton or silk. They can be found right across the Himalayas although they are most commonly associated with Tibet.
They often depict a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala and provide a visual story on the lives of saints and masters.
Most Thangka's are relatively small as they were originally used for personal meditation or for the instruction of monastic students and in the latter case, need to be carried around a lot.
In order to safely do so they are traditionally kept unframed and rolled up when not on display in order to protect them, since they are very delicate.
Some thangkas are designed to be displayed during religious festivals and these can be several metres in each dimension.
Information found on wikipedia.
They are often very elaborate and include many very small figures surrounding a central deity in a symmetrical composition as you can see in this photograph.
Thangka artists often work for many hours in small and intensely condensed work spaces like this one which I photographed during my trip to Nepal.
It was taken in a Thangka school in Nepal which is staffed by master painters and attended by students from across the country. While we were there we were told that many artists suffer health problems later in life especially vision related ones.
This is because they require long hours of visual attention and mental concentration to trace very fine and intricate designs and details.
I did some research on this and found a publication that concluded that a significant proportion of Thangka artists exhibit symptoms of blurred vision and burning sensations amongst other things. You can find out more details of the health problems faced by the artists by clicking on the link.

Hey, @steemcleaners.
I'm commenting here on behalf of @gillianpearce. I understand she's already spoken with someone on discord about this, and has made some changes along with citing a source. I would hope that this would be sufficient to get this rather exorbitant 100% flag lifted. To my knowledge, she has not been flagged for plagiarism of any kind before, and in this case, facts are facts—there aren't that many ways to rewrite something in your own words before you're essentially saying the same thing.
She was in Nepal. She did take the picture, and the experience is her own.
I would hope that not only could this flag be lifted, but that the damage done to her reputation could also be restored.
I'm also tagging @pjau on this in hopes that the someone will see this and take in consideration the relatively small indiscretion here. The punishment way surpasses any possible slight.

Thank you, sir! I appreciate it, and I'm sure Gillian does, too. We were both kind of taken aback here by it, but I'm hopeful good can come out of it, especially with everything back to the way it was. Am I'm wrong in thinking that steemcleaners will warn folks the first time if they think something is plagiarized, or is that just too much of a time consuming endeavor? It seems like I've seen warnings, but maybe that's more like cheetah?

There shouldn't really of been a flag for a first offense. Especially on an account with thousands of real posts and a long history.

Okay. Well good. I'm glad it could be resolved in short order. :)

Thank you @glenalbrethsen. I have put in a dispute so now it's a waiting game.
It's very demoralising when there is so much crap and blatant plagiarism out there that I should get such a devastating flag for omitting a source. I didn't even know it was required since I didn't copy the article. I always put in the source when I use a quote but since this wasn't copied and pasted I didn't think it was necessary.
I've seen many other people merely warned, without a flag, for far worse things.
It's depressing, even more so as this would have been my highest paid post this month.

It appears it's all been fixed, thanks to pjau. And I agree, it was a very minor thing to be throwing a flag on, especially without some kind of warning.

I am grateful for the flag removal but it has left a bitter taste. You are more way tolerant that me but then, as you know, I tend to take such things personally.
It's another insight into why the ideals of decentralisation are easier to espouse than to get right in my opinion too.

Well, I'm sure I wouldn't be happy if it happened to me. I get to see it from the outside on this one. It doesn't make much sense to level such a large flag, regardless, and even less not to offer a warning. It makes me wonder if there's not something else going on. I'm just not sure why.

It actually got worse after I posted that @glenalbrethsen and one guy insisted the flag shouldn't be removed as I was a plagiariser.
The someone else took screen shots of those comments and posted them in the Busy Discord saying I had begged my way to getting the flag reversed and should be blacklisted as a plagiariser.
It was all very unpleasant and I've had enough. I'm taking a big step back from Steemit.
This is the third time that something like this has happened to me although this is the worst. 😢

Well, I'm sorry to hear about all this. I saw what you said about these newer developments. I'm just not getting what this is all about. Are these people folks you know, who you've ran afoul of before somehow? Are they alleging this isn't the first time as far as what they're considering to be plagiarism? I mean, you've corrected all of what could have been taken for that on this post, so what's the big deal now? I don't know if you want me to weigh in any more or not. I feel like I'm just making it worse now. :/

The article wasn't written in "own words" but was in 90% identical to Wikipedia (copied and pasted sentences) with about 10% as re-writing.
