Cuties currently has an 88% critics score and a 3% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It's rare that disparities like that exist. In contexts like this, I assume that most people on the audience side voted it down having never seen it. I do have to say that I doubt that 88% of the actual critics are tolerant of child pornography.
All I've seen are the trailer and some promotional materials. I can say that I found the images off-putting.
I never had any plan to see the movie. It isn't my cup of tea at any level. So, as a result, I can't make any declarations about whether or not it crossed any legal lines or even any lines that I've seen at dance recitals growing up.
I have to assume, however, that if this is actually the first multi-million dollar piece of child pornography, it's not flying under the legal radar for long. If the cops can bust perverts sending encrypted photos, an expensive movie on Netflix and available to everybody is going to be found out.
I'm just not going to be the one to find out.
