Note on security vs. resilience

in netonomy •  6 years ago  (edited)

A resilient system is one that realizes that you cannot have security. Secure means "without care", from se- 'without' + cura 'care'. Like, a mountain, is secure, a rock, inanimate matter. The natural world, is not, it is constantly changing, and needs constant, perpetual, care. The word resilient is from Latin resilire 'to recoil', from re- 'back' + salire 'to jump', a system that can re-grow.

History for example needs no care because it has already existed, it is dead. The present needs all the care it can receive.
