Why is it that women are willing to give a kidney and maybe a toe to looking good?

Whether it's a trip to the salon and a Brazilian wax or a new Marc Jacobs bag that was on sale for $150?

I had never considered myself to be a girl to conform to societies fads or standards especially when it came to beauty. Shaving... What's that? Mani-Pedi... Who needs it?...That is, up until recently.

At 24 years old, when calculating my monthly expenses among gas, food, bills, I allocate a portion (by portion I mean 3/4ths) of my bi-weekly checks to the "treat yo-self fund"

My nails must match my weeks' attitude and my eyebrows need a weed wacker, on top of that I might need a new outfit to match.

Why is it that all of a sudden I care? Am I contradicting everything feminism? I am a huge advocate for women doing whatever the fuck they want, and for me, it comes down to living my best life, as a sexy mf.

Many women may measure themselves to unrealistic expectations from the media.But are we really doing it because we feel scrutinized? Do we feel like we must be a symbol of perfection? Am I trying to impress the boy that I love?

Yes, Yes to all of this!

Although society has a huge influence on the way women may carry themselves physically, it's not necessarily the main reason why we put ourselves in debt. My legs may not compare to that of my favorite Instagram model, and my hair will never be as straight or soft. But there are things that we can control and therefore we have opted for an investment.

Have you ever heard the phrase, "When you look good, you feel good?" It's real. Nails, hair, makeup, clothes accessories etc, become the vector for creation. Creation of our best physical self, and ultimately our emotional self. Society no longer matters, perfection no longer matters, that boy I love no longer matters. What now matters is that I feel sexy for none other than myself.

In reality, nothing looks as good as confident feels it is okay to invest on the "Treat yo-self fund"
