Whoever is happy will make others happy. - Anne Frank

These are wise words from such a strong and inspiring woman.

I think the smartest way of making other people happy is simply asking how one may help them.

We can send flowers and greeting cards, but is there anything more valuable than a:

How are you? What can I do for you?

Here's proving it!

Recap: How it feels to make others happy

When I launched @steemaniacs two weeks ago my primary motivation was TO GIVE SOMETHING BACK.

To those who haven't read the introduction post: @steemanicas has been launched to provide new users on the platform with coachings. The only thing you need to do is drop a link of an article you want me - @surfermarly - to look at, and then I give you some hints on how to improve your doings here.

But now, what happens actually is that instead of simply giving my knowledge away, I GET SO MUCH IN RETURN.

Making somebody happy and then seeing how grateful they are is just priceless.

I wasn't sure if people would even listen to me. What I least wanted was making them feel like students, me being the teacher.

The only thing I wanted was to provide them with a helping hand.

Here are some of the happy voices:

WOW, I didn't expect this!

I would love to thank you again, that you are taking your time for me and all the other steemians asking for your advice! That is really amazing!

Thank you SOOOOOOOooo much for you (long and detailed) reply! (...) You gave me a lot of great advices, and thank you for your support. I now upload my youtube video as you recommend it ! Thank you very much for the tip.

wow! thank you so much for taking the time to review my profile and blogs. i really appreciate it so much. i will definitely follow your advice!

Thanks I do appreciate the feedback I had a quick read and it all makes absolute sense

Well I must thank YOU for all the love!

These steemians were given some tips and tricks on how to improve their doings on steemit - who's next?

@bigpanda, @captain-cabinet, @cikxaijen, @cryptonet, @illuminatus, @jasonsnow, @joearnold, @malik.roxane, @michaellandau, @moonprincess, @nelinoeva, @pusteblume, @references, @rvanstel, @sanees, @sanjay91422, @steemitri, @stonerhousewife, @tattoodjay, @ted7, @thedevilape, @timspeer.

@nelinoeva (she's a stargazer and makes real photography from the moon!) and @stonerhousewife (a powerful music-lover from LA) even redid their introduction posts according to @surfermarly's advices, and they performed much better than their first ones. Yeah!!

During the coaching with @rvanstel I found out that he designs banners which can be used as signatures in steemit blogs. So we agreed on a price and he did one for @surfermarly's account (you may have seen it already in my last blog posts):

This is so much fun! I only wish the day had 48 hours, haha!

Running two accounts on steemit has converted me into a full-time blogger.

But I can't imagine anything better to spend my time with actually. Yeah well.... steemit and surfing, ha!

So if you want me to have a look at your blog or a specific article you've published in the past, then simply drop me a message down here in the comment section.

Please consider that I might not reply instantly. Every coaching needs their while since I really want to provide you with some solid recommendations.

Have a great Monday everybody!

@surfermarly for @steemaniacs - steemit's first coaching project

PS: In my next vlog I will talk about "How to build a followership on steeemit". So stay tuned 😉

I think it's marvelous that you have undertaken this initiative-- what a beautiful thing to do, and what a great way to help build the community.

And the extra benefit of course is that now that we have more of an issue with spam and new users trying shortcuts... you are teaching a whole "generation" of minnows to "rise above" the garbage, and simply by the way they approach Steemit now, are better community members... it's your own very productive and positive way to be part of the "war on spam."

Thank you so much for your encouragement, @denmarkguy!!!
I really appreciate your kindness :-)
That's exactly what I believed: I may help both the newbies (to grow) and the network (to improve the quality of content). Let's see if I can bee a little contributor :-)

You are doing great job and I have no words to thank you, so I give you the moon. :-)

Aaaaw, that was cute! Thank you so much!!! It's been my pleasure.
And please excuse the delay in answering - I've got too many things running at the same time :-))

Oh, I don't expect fast replies. 😀

You need to invest in a waterproof laptop with a satellite uplink that you can attach to your surfboard.

That way, while you are waiting for your next wave, you can get a quick post in.

Hahaha, that's an amazing idea!!! AWESOME drawing, love it :-))
Maybe I seriously need that in the future.

I just added a quick picture so you can imagine it better. :-)

I LOVE IT!!! Will definitely mention it/you in one of my next posts :-)

You are so right. You can always do something nice for someone but making a personal connection is better IMO. Enjoyed.

I'm trying my very best to do so :-)
Thanks for your kindness and support!!!

@surfermarly. Your posts make me happy! Thank you.

Your comments make me happy as well, hehe :-)

Awesome post! I upvoted and resteemed, I hope you can return the favour :)

Can I post a link here? Or where?

Sure! Go ahead :)

Thank You Marly for your time and your words. I sort of figured it out but it was reassuring to hear it from you as well. I will concentrate on a couple of posts a week with content I feel fits the bill from now on and see how it goes 😃.

Best of luck!!! I will have a look at your blog from time to time :-)

It will be my pleasure. I will put it on the list for tomorrow :-)

hey @surfermarly I hope to be in ! I have invited you to my embarrassing challenge 5 days ago but you didn't see my comment also i tagged you in a post and you didn't see it , I hope to see my blog and give me recommendations and tips. I just made a post 30 minutes ago and wish you could take a look

Hey @mostafa1! Sorry. There are so many comments right now, sometimes I miss one.
Please apologize. Tomorrow is bank holiday and I will have plenty of time to study blogs and articles. I will put yours on the list :-)

it's okay @surfermarly ,I do appreciate your time. have a great holiday

Nice idea to share the "most embarrassing stories" - however I'm not sure if I wanna share mine on the blockchain, haha :-)) Keep on doing nice stuff.

The way you're willing to help others is truly amazing!
I would love if you could take a look at my profile and tell me what you think! :D

Thank you :-)
It'll be my pleasure to have a look at it.
Tomorrow is bank holiday on my island, so I will have plenty of time to study your blog.

I'm so happy to hear that! :)

Dear @nikolina!
As promised I had a look at your blog during yesterday's bank holiday.
The first thing that I thought was: "Why doesn't she receive any whale votes even though her content is really nice?"
Your reputation is at 60 which is pretty well after 6 months on steemit. However, I believe that you should earn more money for your valuable content :-)
Possible reasons:

  1. You are trying to compete with the best: I see a lot of traveling and also photography, which are both highly competitive fields - meaning that (if you have an average payout of let's say $1.00 you won't ever be "visible" on the related trending pages. Choosing tags like blog, life or steemit doesn't help here much either (same story: they are highly competitive and the best bloggers there are top earners). So I think it's a visibility issue. Don't get me wrong, your travel content is AWESOME, it just seems that the powerful accounts still haven't discovered your blog :-) What are you doing to make yourself more visible? Are you commenting on other people's posts in the same category? Are you chatting with people? I will definitely put you on @surfermarly's "auto-vote" list and provide you with an upvote on every article you submit starting from today - this might give you at least a little boost :-)

  2. Profile description: You might provide people with some information about what your are mainly doing. Imagine that your blog was a magazine - what would you write on the cover? People love to know what they get :-)

  3. Writing style: Remember that the attention span of social media users is very low. Considering this article for instance https://steemit.com/travel/@nikolina/parasailing-in-makarska you could have used some cross headings and also shorten your paragraphs a bit in order to improve the legibility of the whole article. The shorter, the merrier. What I do in my articles is using different font sizes in order to put the more important Information to the front and leave the details in the back. Some people just don't have the time to read the whole story but like that they can get an idea of it anyways - just flying over the cross headings.

Again, your content is really good, and I especially enjoyed your travel stories. So I think you're doing a great job here! I will put you on my auto-vote list and resteem some of your articles in the future, then you might get some more attention (and money) :-))

I hope you enjoyed this little coaching!
See you around and have a good day,
Marly -

Thank you so much!
I really appreciate you taking time to check out my profile.
Everything you said makes sense now! taking notes

  1. I think that you made a great point with the tags I was using, it's possible that my posts "get lost" in the most popular topics. I do try to interact with other people, commenting on their posts, upvoting and I also try to reply on every single comment I get.
  2. I will definitely update my profile description to be a little bit more personal and specific. :)
  3. Another great tip that I will follow and try to implement in the future to make my posts a little bit more visually dynamic and interesting!

And also a massive thank you for putting me on your upvoting list, for your advice and help, it's very much appreciated!

Have a lovely day! :)

This is a really nice attitude. To help others is the best way and motivation you can have. Empowering others to reach their goals, I like it. Keep on going.

Thank you! I appreciate that you appreciate it :)

Wow that's nice, would love to have some feedback on steemit..I hope you can find some of your time for a review.

Hey @rival!
As promised here is my feedback on your blog:

First thing that I noticed is: for being only about months on steemit you've got a lot of followers. Have you run a special promotion?
My personal opinion is that it's not about the quantity of followers but the quality. Because when you look at your last post, for instance, then you can see that only 7 from 700 opened it (1%). That's a very low ratio.
If you've had a "healthier" growth of followers, the ratio might be better. So what you should rather do is engage with the people who might be interested in READING and VOTING your stuff instead of simply trying to bring that number up...

Second, I don't really understood what your blog is about. Is it a blog about music, family, archaeology, fun (strange places to live e.g.),....?
What I actually wanted to say is that you should focus on 1-2 main fields you're going to conquer in the beginning.
When I started on steemit I tried to become really good at one thing which was poetry. Yeah I wrote a lot of poems at that point of time, and the community started to know me for that...
Then after a certain time I started fo focus on other groups of interests that are matching with the passions I have in real life (like Surfing for instance).
So if I were you I'd try to define a concrete sector on steemit I'd like to conquer, something you're really good at.
Also I would finetune the profile description accordingly then, telling people exactly what they gonna find in your blog.
Plus: don't write about steemit if your new to the platform :-) It's as if you were writing about Facebook being on Facebook... Nobody does that, and it's not rewarded by the stake holders on steemit either.

Last but not least, tagging: try to use tags that are less competitive than the ones you are choosing right now. "life" for example is one of the most competitive ones here on the platform, because it's generic (suitable for almost everything).

I hope that will help you to give you some little boost :-)
Have a great day @rival!!!
Sending you sunny regards from my summery island (31 degrees Celsius at 7:30pm),
Marly -

Thank you very much for your effort. I will try to change and focus indeed on some good remarks you gave me. Thx

Of course!!! I will put you on my list for tomorrow :-)
Have a great day!

Hi @steemaniacs
This was my introduction on steemit and i didn't get much response. Would you please kindly take a look at it. Thanks for the amazing work you are doing!!

https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@simplifylife/med-student-from-china

Hey @simplifylife!
Welcome to Steemit!
When you say that your intro didn't get much response, what did you exactly expect?
To be honest, for my very first post on steemit I didn't receive much more attention than you got for yours :-)
This is a long term project.
Plus: there are MANY new users joining the platform every single day, so thousands of people want to get a piece from the cake.

If I were you I'd definitely change one Thing: When I had a look at your blog I asked myself "So what is this blog actually about?".
You headlined your introduction with being a med student, that's whay I thought I would find a blog about medicine and related topics. But then you right about everything else but medicine: Football, memes, food, news, movies,... It couldn't be more diverse (and confusing :-)).

So here is my no. 1 advice: be more precise! Choose 1-2 fields / topics you're good at and then become a professional at them. You can't be a sports expert, food blogger and med student at the same time. I mean in real life you may be, but a blog is like a magazine: you need a FOCUS.

Medical student. Interested in and learning about Cryptocurrency. Love to cook and try out good food. Small scale photography once in a while. Sports.

This is definitely too much.
Also: don't tag your articles with #cryptocurrency if you're a beginner in that field. This is a highly competitive area here on steemit, and we've got some really professional crypto enthusiasts on the platform. So I'd rather suggest you to blog about something you're already good at. Don't get me wrong: it's awesome to learn and people will appreciate your interest in crypto. However, don't try to make it your "store sign" :)

Last but not least: be Patient! You're not even one month on this platform.

I hope you considered these ideas helpful.
Best of luck!

@surfermarly for @steemaniacs

Wow thanks so much for the support!! This was very insightful.

Yes I did think of starting writing out a few simple topics about certain common diseases at first, but then i thought to myself, writing about medical topics is and extremely focused topic and i didn't think I have the follower base for that yet. On the other hand things like memes and photography would appeal to a much larger reader base because these are more general topics and more people are into these things. Also I do enjoy these. So what would you suggest me to do now that you know where my mindset was? I mean should i totally stop posts related to memes, photography and sports?

And also one thing that baffled me was, just recently one of my posts made about $20 overnight while all my other posts are hardly making $1 or 2. I'm not sure what i did right in that post and now i'm much more confused and starting to lose patience when the next posts aren't making that much hahaha. This is the post i'm talking about.

https://steemit.com/steemit/@simplifylife/sbd-steem-and-steem-power-made-ridiculously-simple-for-newbies-and-beginners

Again, thanks a bunch and sorry for the late reply. Don't know how i missed your reply.

Cheers!!

Hey @simplifylife!
Well I know what you mean when you are talking about addressing content to a wider audience. The problem with sections like photography is that they are highly competitive - and that a lot of people are trying the same that you do. So the great challenge will be: how to stand out there? If you are an excellent photographer (better than the average photographer on steemit), then you should give it a try. Otherwise I'd rather focus on something else.

And also one thing that baffled me was, just recently one of my posts made about $20 overnight while all my other posts are hardly making $1 or 2.

You got a really nice upvote from famunger. That's funny because he's a friend of mine from college :-) He's a minnow supporter so you were lucky enough to gain his attention.

I've seen that you've done several articles / tutorials for new users. Well if this is something that works, then keep doing so. The most important thing here is recognition value. Look at the people on the trending page - their blogs are BRANDS :-)

I will keep reading your articles and leave some feedback from time to time. Best of luck on your doings!!! :-)

Marly -

@surfermarly @steemaniacs Thanks so much for the reply!! It's an honor to have an established user like you reading my posts!! Would appreciate any feedbacks from you!! Also, if you find any of my posts worthy and could share with people you know who would be kind enough to leave an upvote would help me out a lot!!

Yes i have been doing some steemit tutorials (3 posts so far) and i am really enjoying doing these. i have also been getting good interaction from my followers. The last two had over 50 upvotes each and good comments, but haven't had much earning, probably because it didn't reach the more influential users on steemit. So if it's not too much of a trouble for you, a little support would go a long way!!

As you had suggested to focus on 1-2 topics, i have decided, For now i will focus on Steemit Tutorials and a few occassional memes till I figure out what kind of topics to write about in the field of medicine. I'm totally confused whther i should write explaining certain diseases, or should i focus on treatments or diagnostic criteria and so on....it's all a big mess inside my head lol!!

Once i figure out what i wanna write in the field of medicine, i'll probably decrease doing memes.

Once again, thank you so much for you reply!!

Cheers!!
