Darias said that to improve security, his party added three ships, an airplane, a helicopter to a submarine. All of these fleets are deployed to guard the waters between the west coast of Africa and the Canary Islands .
“The main objective of this government, and of any government, is to avoid anyone who risked their life on board one of these ships,” said Darias, quoted by Reuters on Saturday (11/14/2020).

Darias explained that in 2020 16 thousand people have entered the Canary Islands. They have defied the dangers of sailing the Atlantic Ocean from Africa.
According to him, this number is 10 times more than last year. Darias said there were 140 people who died on the way because their ship was a ship and also capsized.

Furthermore, Darias said the reason the immigrants left their place of origin was due to economic factors. The COVID-19 pandemic is exacerbating their economic situation.
Darias admitted that his party is currently working on a proper place for refugees for the immigrants. According to him, the local authorities have also set up a jetty for temporary camps for immigrants. The site is a former military warehouse and can accommodate about 800 people.

“You can’t stack 1,980 people in 400 square meters, firstly because they are not cows, secondly human and thirdly because there are no sanitary conditions to care for them properly,” he said.
