BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:10 A.M.) - Hundreds of civilians began returning to the Yarmouk Camp District of southern Damascus after several neighborhoods were declared safe by the Syrian military.
According to a government report, the civilians were welcomed back and safely escorted to their homes after demining crews cleared the explosives that were left behind by the Islamic State (ISIL).
The report added that the government is working to restore electricity and water to these neighborhoods, but it may take several weeks.
As the footage below shows, hundreds of civilians in tens of vehicles returned to the Yarmouk Camp on Saturday after years of displacement:
