BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:35 P.M.) - The Prime Minister of Lebanon Saad Hariri cast his vote in the legislative election in Beirut on Sunday, as Lebanese voters elect the country's parliament for the first time since 2009.
Some 583 candidates are competing for 128 seats in parliament.
The vote is being held under a new law, which has introduced a system of proportional representation. The public cast two votes; one for a list of candidates and one for a single candidate.
The election is considered to be a test for the Western-backed Sunni Prime Minister Hariri, who contends with the political wing of Shiite Hezbollah.
