BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:15 P.M.) - The Saudi-backed Hadi loyalists and their allies from the Yemeni Army launched a massive offensive in the eastern countryside of the Sanaa Governorate this afternoon.
Led by the Hadi loyalists, the Saudi-backed forces stormed the strategic Nihm District in a bid to overwhelm the Houthi fighters defending this rugged area.
According to a report from pro-Hadi activists, the Saudi-backed forces have seized several areas in the Nihm District after a fierce battle with the Houthi fighters at this imperative front.
In addition to the ground advances, the Saudi-led Coalition has been hammering this part of the Sanaa Governorate, while also bombing the main supply routes for the Houthi forces in northern Yemen.
The pro-government forces are attempting to capture the Nihm District in order to make another big push towards the capital city.
The Houthi forces have yet to contrast the claims made by the pro-government troops.
This latest offensive by the Saudi-backed forces comes just days after the United Arab Emirates announced a ceasefire inside the Hodeideh Governorate.
Prior to the ceasefire, the UAE-backed Southern Resistance Army and Yemeni Republican Guard were attempting to capture both the Hodeideh International Airport and provincial capital of the Hodeideh Governorate.
