U.S. Government Sending $1,000 Checks to Citizens

in news •  5 years ago  (edited)

Just a short while ago, Pres. Trump accompanied by some White House staff members announced that they are planning to send a check in the amount of $1,000.00 to U.S. citizens. The payments represent part of a new 'Stimulus' package, intended to help ease possible economic hardships, due to Clovid-19 preventive measures.

Secretary of the Treasury, Steve Mnuchin acknowledged that the method of distribution has not been completely determined, but the projected delivery of funds to citizens can be expected within the next two weeks.

Also mentioned in the one hour televised address, were intentions to grant economic aid to certain Companies, within industries suffering loses due to the Corona Virus sanctions imposed upon them, as well as to help reduce any potential downturn in the Financial Markets.

Airline Companies were among those who will, in part, be beneficiaries of the new monies released by the Feds. which is estimated to begin at approximately $850 billion dollars.

If they bail out companies that used debt to buy back their own stock so that execs could get big bonuses, heads need to roll.

Oh...You mean like it usually works out for the Big guys that fatten their pockets with taxpayer money??? Nawwwww… that surely won't happen.

I don't see a very good track record of rolling the heads we ought to see roll.

Here's hoping though.

Mean while I was finally looking at the accumulated mail and digging out all the tax pieces that I have yet to look at. I hope if people receive retirement or other government benefits, that they do electronic deposits or I might not see the check at all.

I suspect electronic direct deposits will be used in many cases. They are also suspending April 15th as last day to file income tax returns by extending the period for another three months (from what I heard)

My wife said something about that also. I may have to check and see if it is an automatic extension for everyone, or if you need to request it and it is just going to be blanket approval if you use the word covid-19 in your request. I still hope to get mine done soon, I never have to pay and always get a refund, because I always pay in to much.

If you're owed a refund, it doesn't matter when you file generally. The three month extension comes with a promise of no interest and penalties imposed for paying late...if money is due the IRS :>)

I first heard $1000, but some people around here are saying $4500 is being considered. I wonder where such a big discrepancy came from. That's a lot of money difference, especially multiplied over the population.

Hopefully somebody does something.

There will probably be a lot of misinformation being spread around about the money in terms of amount, who gets it and how. We will need to wait and see how it all plays out.

There was a one time benefit paid out to either disabled social security recipients or disabled veterans (I don't remember which) about twenty years ago by the Bush administration, in which some people received approx. $6,000.

EDIT: I re-watched the Presidential address and $1,000. was specifically mentioned, but it was seemingly a figure that could be interpreted as an example of what is being considered. When posed a question as to 'how much' an individual will receive specifically by a reporter, no one at the podium responded with a clear answer.

I've been watching all the addresses I can. I'm particularly worried due to my kidney and respiratory troubles, both of which were mentioned as risk factors in one of those speeches.

"...no one at the podium responded with a clear answer."

Surprise surprise. At first I was a bit encouraged by that farcical head of state's solemnity and deference to experts in the face of crisis. Now it's evolving in a more racist direction, using rhetoric that refers to the pandemic as a war and so forth. Negligence, scapegoating and fearmongering from elected officials is always dangerous, but especially now.

At least they aren't denying the science of virology I suppose...

Woohoo! I'm gonna blow it all on pot and hookers!

What ya gonna do after that first hour, tho? lolol

Shake my head and mumble about how women and dope will be the death of me.
Maybe mope a couple days.

I'm gonna spend mine on some good video equipment to shoot a documentary about you smoking your dope and frolicking with hookers. Then sell the rights to @lucylin so he can use it in his 3speak productions.

I wouldn't be buying, I'm afraid! lol.....Do you not realize how many hundreds upon hundreds of hours of footage of that type, that I could use?

I better get some teeth first!

@lucylin is right, no shortage of stiff d**ks out there.

I never saw trump as a commie before..
