Google uncovered Russia-backed ads on YouTube, Gmail: Washington Post

in news •  7 years ago

I saw the headline and I thought, "Have they really found some proof of this?".

Quote:

Google has discovered that Russian operatives spent tens of thousands of dollars on ads on YouTube, Gmail, Google search and other products, The Washington Post reported on Monday

The article doesn't say what 'Russian operatives' means. The best they could come up with was "Kremlin-affiliated entity", which could mean absolutely anything. It doesn't even say what the ads were about - last week, there it was news that RT News actually spends money on advertising itself!

The article later gives the shocking news that 'Russia' (what does that mean exactly?) has social media accounts and pays for advertising.

I have no idea if the Russian government is waging some kind of illicit social media war against the US, but I do know that this type of reporting is absolute garbage, has no real content and is not worth reading.

You can't trust the news these days. Not that one ever could, but, in today's world, it seems so obvious what they are trying to do.
