This is an issue that commonly gets blamed on capitalism. However, the problem is not capitalism but the government regulatory environment. Special interests of an established industry lobby to get regulations changed that make new competition difficult or impossible. Often these regulations come under the guise of safety or some other benevolent sounding tripe.
Notice the price difference between this new technology for orthodontics and the old. You can see why orthodontists are arguing against it: some of them would lose their jobs and many of them would lose income from this new Schumpeterian competition.
