Such a view is not only partisan but also historically ignorant. It overlooks all that the Electoral College has produced—chiefly, a stable political system that forces politicians to reckon with our nation’s diverse needs.
The Electoral College and the process by which the president is elected is fundamental to the type of government that we have. To get rid of that system is to essentially destroy the Federal system that we have. This article goes over some of the reasons that this would be bad. At the end of the day, it would mean that smaller states would essentially have no say in presidential elections. This, perhaps, wouldn't be so bad if the Federal government had not been encroaching on what were traditionally state or local matters but that is not the case.
