Impeachment proceedings turning into name-calling spree

in news •  5 years ago

I suppose this was always going to happen but now instead of just senselessly talking about impeaching Trump, they are starting to focus on one another during the proceedings and even the family members of various representatives. This goes on for hours a day.

I'm not watching this garbage because it is all just grand-standing on the part of a few members of congress who are seeking to make names for themselves. It is also mostly people talking who come from areas that are overwhelmingly Democrat or Republican and therefore the speakers themselves have no fear of their constituents voting them out.

Lately however, the focus has shifted from the President to family members of people who aren't the president and jackaloons on both side of the aisle simply try to sling as much shit as they possibly can. It's embarrassing to watch and I can't believe that these are our elected officials who make huge amounts of money.

The latest fiasco has to do with this Florida representative named Matt Gaetz - who has become a bit of a conservative mouth-piece in defense of Trump. However, Matt decided to start talking about Joe Biden's son, Hunter... and how he has a history of drug addiction. Now here is why this is dumb...

WTF does Hunter's drug addiction have to do with impeaching the president? What does "drug addiction" actually mean? Did he do some coke in college or something? Did he enter rehab for rich boy drinkin' problems? Hunter being related to a person who is NOT the President, and is simply the son of someone who also was never the President (and won't be either, IMO) is somehow relevant to impeachment proceedings?

Then in a rebuttal someone brought up the fact that Matt Gaetz (the person who attacked Hunter Biden) has a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) charge against him more than 11 years ago. This also has fuck all to do with the President, or anything at all related to the impeachment process.

Congress acting like a bunch of idiots for the sake of the cameras is nothing new. The media response to this battle of wits over drugs and alcohol is equally dumb dumb dumb.

The trash liberal outlets like Vox and established ones (but still trash) like the New York Times are laughing about how Matt Gaetz got schooled and the trash conservative outlets like InfoWars and established ones like NY Post (also still trash) are saying precisely the opposite.

More proof that there is no journalism anymore. It's just so predictable. I could present you with a situation such as "such and such democrat did something" and then ask you what Vox or InfoWars had to say about it, and you would already know the answer... there's no need to read the articles.

Well, this was always going to happen and it's nothing new. I had a roommate in college that was really into politics and fancied himself someone that was going to enter the political arena. He would have C-Span on constantly and basically Congress just uses any ol' issue in order to attack one another rather than address the issue at hand. I hate politicians... i wish public servants actually existed.

that must have been maddening to have a political roommate. I get annoyed when anyone brings up politics in public and I have several friends that seem to use any possible avenue to do precisely that.

I have started to simply say nothing and change tables whenever this happens.
