I'm no eco-warrior. I realize that as the population of the world continues to grow that overfishing is going to continue to be a problem until there is nothing left in the ocean other than jellyfish. Then we are going to have to learn how to turn that into something savory I guess. I've tried jellyfish before and basically it tastes like you are eating chewy nothingness.
I think that most people have some level of sympathy towards Orcas and if you have any ethics you should probably join in for the boycott of Sea World especially if you see the documentaries of how it is that these animals are captured and later trained. They HATE their jobs and even though the tanks they are in would be gigantic swimming pools for you and I, it is a really small place for them.
So when an article comes out and the headline directly says that Orcas, who live in the ocean, are STEALING food from humans, who do not live in the ocean, that is just retarded.

To be fair to the author of this article, Angela L. Pagán, she does point out that it is because of the fact that humans have removed so much food from the ocean that the Orcas don't really have much of a choice. She also points out that the animals are a lot more intelligent than previously thought and have actually been observed teaching their young how to poach seafood catches from both nets and from hooks designed for the mass capture of tuna.
I just didn't care for the wording of this one part of the article
A new study has found that killer whales, or orcas, are teaching each other how to steal fish from humans
Who is really stealing from whom here? If it weren't for the greed and fishing to the point of extinction the whales wouldn't bother with this, but now it appears as though Orcas are actually following fishing vessels and destroying the nets and getting a buffet of sorts from the horde of fish that they release upon doing so.
I can't say that I feel in any way bad for the fisheries or the owners of the companies. I'm not telling everyone to stop eating fish but honestly, what did we think was going to happen?

I applaud the Orca's innovation and hope they continue to do this henceforth. I place no blame on the author of this article except for a few sentences where it appears as though she is attempting to vilify the Killer Whales for just being hungry. We are the thieves here, not the Orcas.
