It has been about 200,000 years since the last massive eruption of Campi Flegrie near Naples, Italy (one of the most densely populated areas of the world). Campi Flegrie in Italian means "burning fields".

Scientist at the Italian National Institute of Geophysics in Rome think the magma inside Campi Flegrie is approaching the critical degassing pressure. Scientists are observing accelerating ground deformation and heating.

Threat Level Elevated

The Italian government has raised the threat level for this super-volcano from green to yellow as scientists are continuing to monitor the area.

huh...If you guys are going to do FaceBook style posts...I guess I can too.

I am still fairly a newbie to posting and I have never posted to FaceBook or even browsed the posts on FaceBook. I am not sure what "FaceBook style" is. By your comment I suppose I just did it.

I was just hoping to draw attention to non-political, non-economic world events that could impact people's lives. And geology (especially volcanology) is an interest of mine.

@everittdmickey, you gained a new follower. I am now following your posts and will happily upvote any of your posts I like or find interesting.

Steem on,
Mike

hi mike...
I guess I did come across kinda grumpy.
not that you did anything a lot of other folks aren't doing also.
Not that it's a particularly bad idea either.
see my post where I grumbled about it some.
The unwritten rule, enforced by vigalantes like the cheetah bot and steamcleeners, is that there is NO plagarism...and they take that to EXTREME...to the point that some folks (me) hesitate to even QUOTE some else to avoid being nagged by the content cat.

then again...It might be fun. I have cats...I know how to handle them.

"FaceBook Style" my term, is to post a link and an excerpt...writing something of your own to go with it is optional.

Steemit, up till now, has discouraged that.
hmmm...i forgot about the new tag...in the news I think it's called, which allows for that very thing.

Steemit is complex. It'll take a while to get used to. Don't let it get you down and ignor grumpy old codgers like me.

I'm of two minds about this.
Carry on.
