The lineage of British royal leader Queen Elizabeth II is becoming a hot conversation in the Middle East after Moroccan newspaper Al-Ousboue declared that the queen has blood relation with Prophet Muhammad SAW.
Al-Ousboue traces the lineage of Queen Elizabeth II and discovers that the queen is the 43rd descendant of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The blood line flows through the 14th century Earl of Cambridge to Spanish Muslims throughout the medieval period then to the Prophet's daughter, Fatimah.
Similar claims have also been expressed by the world's best pedigree researcher from Britain, Burke Peerage, several years ago and by former great Egyptian mufti Ali Gomaa.
Quoted from the page of the Economist, Saturday (7/4), the researcher claims that the queen was born from the descendant of a Muslimah named Zaida. Zaida escaped from the Berber attack in his hometown of Seville in the 11th century to the Christian palace of Alfonso VI.
Zaida converted to Christianity and changed her name to Isabella after marrying Alfonso. From the marriage, both are blessed with a son named Sancho who later married the Earl of Cambridge.
However, Zaida's own origins are still debated. Some say that Zaida was the son of Muatamid ibn Abbad, the descendant of the Prophet. Some say he married their family.
The Arab community's reaction to the queen's lineage has also triggered various reactions. Some people view the negative claims and call them tactics to revive the British empire with the help of Muslims, especially Shiites. Meanwhile, some others welcomed the news well.
"It builds a bridge between our two religions and our kingdom," said Abdelhamid Al-Aouni, who writes articles in Al-Ousboue.
