CIA's In-House R&D Arm Will Research Blockchain Technology

The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) announced a new research and development unit on Monday, dubbed CIA Labs. The initiative "brings CIA officers together with the private sector and academia to research and develop science and technology solutions in support of CIA’s mission. Among the areas of research are "distributed ledger/blockchain-enabled technologies. CIA Labs conducts multidisciplinary research, development, testing, and engineering to address new challenges and improve, accelerate the production of existing solutions. Read Full on The Block.

Survey: 26% Of Institutional Investors Will Increase Crypto Holdings

A recent study compiled by a cryptocurrency insurance company revealed that over 25% of surveyed institutional investors, who collectively manage nearly $80 billion of assets, are planning to increase their digital asset holdings. The study compiled by the company highlighted that 26% of all participants believe that pension funds, family offices, insurers, and sovereign wealth funds will “dramatically” increase their cryptocurrency purchases. US Banks Can Hold Reserves for Stablecoins

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has issued its second letter this afternoon allowing U.S. financial institutions to back digital dollar stablecoins under the leadership of Acting Comptroller Brian Brooks. This letter permits U.S. financial institutions to hold deposits as reserves for stablecoins that represent fiat currency such as the U.S. dollar. Tyler Winklevoss: Bitcoin is 10X Better Than Gold

According to Tyler Winklevoss, co-founder of the Gemini crypto exchange, Bitcoin beats gold at its own game. Winklevoss said in a Sept. 21 tweet, Bitcoin is better at being gold than gold and not just incrementally, but by an order of magnitude or 10X better. In his social media post, Winklevoss included a chart pitting the two assets against each other. Out of seven categories, gold ruled only one the total amount money held in the asset. Nasdaq Will Launch World's First Bitcoin ETF On Bermuda Stock Exchange

Regulated Brazilian fund manager Hashdex has inked a deal with Nasdaq to launch the world’s first crypto asset exchange-traded fund (ETF) on the Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX). The stock exchange announced it had approved the ‘Hashdex Nasdaq Crypto Index’ on September 18, revealing that 3 million Class E shares will be issued for trade on the platform. The fund should be liveby the end of the year. ETF offer a regulated and insured vehicle for institutional investors access exposure to commodities without holding the underlying assets. E-commerce Giant JD.com to Build Apps for China's Digital Yuan

Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has reportedly agreed to help the nation's central bank develop infrastructure for its cash-equivalent digital currency. As Reported by local media, the People's Bank of China has reached a strategic cooperation agreement with JD.com to co-develop mobile and blockchain technology platforms for the digital yuan initiative. Iran’s Three Power Plants Will Offer Electricity For Crypto Mining

Thermal Power Plant Holding Company (TPPH), which owns and operates plants all across Iran, said it will soon offer their energy outputs exclusively for Bitcoin mining from three of its power stations. “The necessary equipment has been installed in three power plants of Ramin, Neka, and Shahid Montazeri, and the auction documents will be uploaded on the SetadIran.ir website in the near future,” said TPPH head Mohsen Tarztalab. Bitcoin Hash Rate Touches New All-Time High

According to data from Blockchain.com, the bitcoin hash rate has reached an all-time high of 133.7 million terahashes per second, following a drop to 122.194 million TH/s on Sept. 6. The rise after this drop occurred despite the fact that, on Sept. 1, the Bitcoin exchange rate dropped from the peak of $12,040 and hit the $11,400 area.
