Kathryn Steinle a 32-year-old woman was walking with her father when she was shot by an illegal immigrant, the murderer was acquitted by the jury of all charges. This infuriated anyone with an ounce of empathy. The illegal immigrant Jose Inez Garcia Zarate was a convicted felon, that was deported on countless occasions but returned to the USA for intentions that lead to the death of Kathryn Steinle.
We are constantly bombarded with the shouts of glory and benefits of culture mixing while the dangers are hidden from us. As the communities and families in the West are taken apart by bureaucratic decisions in ivory towers. You and your brothers and sisters are left to move aimlessly in the shadows unable to trust each-other. We, therefore, mix with random people that provide us with a feeling of belonging, any feeling, but at what cost. Have we sold our own glory to the unknowns that aim to see us destroyed?
Who are we? What are we?
Kathryn Steinle, deserved, as do all of us, to leave her doors open and let her neighbours walk into her life without fear of death. To walk around her town with open arms, as she passed familiar faces smiling back at her. That was not what she got, she got a piece of hot steel ripping through her body rendering her lifeless.
