Special counsel Bob Mueller has obtained a personal letter Donald Trump wrote to Russian President Vladimir Putin inviting him to attend the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow, The Washington Post reports.
According to the report, Trump was “so eager” to have Putin at his pageant that he wrote him a personal letter inviting him to attend.
Trump handwrote a postscript before the typed letter in which he added that he was looking forward to seeing “beautiful” women on his trip.
Trump’s letter “shows how interested he was in attracting the personal attention of the Russian president,” The Post reports, adding that Trump sent the letter while he was looking to expand his business into Russia.
The letter, which is the first known attempt by Trump to directly reach Putin, has been turned over to Mueller’s team. It remains unknown if Putin received the letter or if he replied to it.
Trump did not hide his enthusiasm to host Putin at the time.
“Do you think Putin will be going to The Miss Universe Pageant in November in Moscow — if so, will he become my new best friend?” Trump tweeted in 2013.
According to a Trump associate, Putin planned to attend the pageant but canceled last minute. Instead, Putin reportedly sent back a “friendly letter” and a gift.
This development must be quite disturbing to the "Trump's a traitor" crowd.
Imagine an investor and owner of a business, which is what the Pageant happens to be, wanting to insure its greatest chance of success. What might such an owner/investor do?
Well, perhaps, she might contact celebrities, including actors, sports figures, musicians? Or, she might aim higher and seek out the participation of heads of State.
If this is the smoking gun, it reminds me of "smoking guns" of my 1960's childhood:
