The startup Volans-i tested in the US state of Texas delivery over long distances with the help of a drone. Tests of UAV for corporate customers were held last week, writes TechCrunch.
The drone flew 160 km and delivered a part for a robot weighing about 2.13 kg, the newspaper notes.
The span of the wings of the Volans-i drones ranges from 2.44 meters to 3.35 meters, continue in TechCrunch. In this case, the devices are able to move at a speed of 112.7-321.9 km per hour and carry loads weighing up to 22.7 kg. According to the developers, the standard weight of cargo for such drones is 4.53 kg.
The co-founders of the startup note that the most difficult was the issue of legal regulation of tests. The requirements of the Federal Air Transport Agency (FAA) oblige operators of unmanned aerial vehicles to keep the drone in sight or to receive a special permit to conduct flights out of sight.
"In a confined airspace, the drone was able to fly 1600 km and carry up to 22.7 kg. In the airspace permitted for flights, we were able to deliver to a shorter distance, "said co-founder of Volans-i Hannan Parvizian. To conduct tests in Texas, the startup has placed on the path of the drone of company employees and officials from the FAA, point to TechCrunch.
