I saw another documentary about my island, only sadness is what comes to my mind

Tonight on Dutch television, there was an other documentary on Sint Martin after hurricane Irma. Its on NPO2, and you can watch the episode online here.

A well known Dutch reporter (Sasha de Boer) is following a couple of people on Sint Martin, and how they are living after hurricane Irma. It is just so strange and surreal to see, like the documentary is about an other place. And the weird thing is, every time I see something on TV about the hurricane disaster, and seeing my house on TV on Red Cross commercials, its just like seeing a totally different place. And I dont mean this is the way, that the news is faking it. I mean it in the way, that every day I pass by the destruction I see on TV, and I dont see it anymore. Im accustomed to the scenery apparently.

And to be honest, I am. When I drive to work, and the lightpoles of the soccer field are snapped like matches, I dont see it. And when I look at my house, I dont even see the fact that my doors are all from plyerwood. Its just normal. But sometimes it hits you, thats it not fucking normal.

If I look at today for instance, I am dogsitting in an damn nice house with hardly any damage. https://steemit.com/dogs/@karinxxl/dogsitting-in-a-villa-for-a-week-bb5bdfd034344
I go to work in the morning, my hospital job is still there, I still have a job. BF still has his job in a high end restaurant, luckily his job is still there and they even have guests coming in. At work I speak with my colleague who is charging the shit out of everything (lights/phones/external batteries) because after 100 days she still doesnt have any electricity. My other colleague had a bad night, because her tarpolin roof was leaking again, so she was mopping the whole night.
I go to yoga in the evening on a beautiful deck outdoors, and do easy yoga under the stars with crickets in the background. The contrast is just so BIG, so so BIG. Fair to say that I dont know if I wouldnt have a roof, and wouldnt have a job, if I would still be living here.

And I am so fortunate with my situation, I am sometimes ashamed about it. These documentaries make me open my eyes. This is my reality around me. And they make me cry. And thats okay.

Wanna see more about Sint Martin after the hurricane? These documentaries are mostly in Dutch, but the images dont need any translation to be honest.

toen ik het zag op tv moest ik aan jou denken, groetjes

Vaag he, het lijkt dan net alsof het niet over hier gaat, maar in een ander derdewereld land ofzo!

How awful ... enjoy your time in a house without earthquake wounds...

I am, I really am! Just so strange to see it on TV, then you really see how messed up it is again

I hope everything will be ok in the end for all of you over there...

Hopefully all would be well soon, lots of work needs to be done especially getting people houses off the ground.... Gebe has done overall a good job but still has much to done, sad the government has fallen and its more election campaigning rather than dealing with issues but hopefully things work out

I cant say nothing about GEBE to be honest. These guys have and still are working their asses off around the clock. And everybody else as well, you hear construction sounds the whole day, every day. People are building and going for it, nothing else you can do. As the guy in the documentary said. What do you want me to do, sit and cry? It doesnt fix anything, but sometimes in the moment of reflection, we do have to cry about it.

Too me its good the government has fallen, Marlin was really on rampage of foolishness. But this elections coming up, I just wouldnt want a single dime to be spent on there, and just on people houses, road, and digging up roads.

Did they manage to finish the work they were doing on the roads in the town or that project is abandon now... Politician would be politicians hahahaha

That is back in process! Traffic is a disaster at the moment birthdayboy @daudimitch

Thank you for the wishes
