Morocco seems to be on track to pass a new tax law on giant technology companies, including Morocco, led by two of them, notably Facebook and Google, according to local press sources.
Morocco's Telecell.com reported that the Moroccan authorities, represented by the exchange office and the General Directorate of Taxation, are seriously considering the issue of requiring the companies of the digital world whose applications and locations within Morocco to pay taxes to the Moroccan treasury.
According to the sources of the site "Tel Kell", both Facebook and Google are not subject to any tax law in Morocco and therefore the state does not benefit from advertising revenues that are achieved within the Moroccan territory, and the same sources pointed out that a joint committee between the Exchange Office and the General Directorate of taxes will evaluate the financial activities of these Companies in Morocco starting in January 2018 in view of the adoption of a tax law forcing them to abide by it.
Morocco is not the first country to impose taxes on major technology companies, preceded by countries in the European Union.
