Behind the scenes #1: My thought process behind an upcoming political feature

in news •  6 years ago

I've been thinking about what I'm about to write in an upcoming political feature on the Heartland Newsfeed website.

One thing is for certain -- it surrounds the Libertarian Party and some of the gubernatorial candidates who have garnered quite a bit of media attention over the past several months.

I put out some feelers yesterday on a Libertarian-oriented subreddit in hopes of getting a list of ten.

I found out that won't be so simple.

How is that? Up to this point, there were 28 states with Libertarian candidates running and with 37 states having contested gubernatorial races this year, very few have garnered much in media attention.

So, what is my current mindset on this feature?

I can easily knock out four of the tentative ten candidate breakdown with the following:

I have set a deadline for the second week of July to get this out and published (which will be posted not only on the Heartland Newsfeed website, but also on Steemit), so I am aiming for at least seven come publication.

Both Jackson and Sharpe have received considerable media attention, even leading up to their nominating conventions.

Jackson has garnered not only media attention for his activism surround parental rights and exposing the scam that is family court, but also his campaign, which clearly surpasses the lack of media attention surrounding 2014 nominee Chad Grimm.

Sharpe has been active with a hard-hitting media team to get press coverage, but his most notable action is out-raising his now-former Republican opponent for six consecutive SEC filing quarters in his gubernatorial race against Democratic incumbent Andrew Cuomo.

As I continue along with this feature, I will post updates to give a better idea on the "gears grinding my brain" in getting this completed.
