KATHY GRIFFIN SAYS TRUMP 'TRYING TO RUIN MY LIFE,' CAREER OVER AFTER SEVERED HEAD PICTURE

in news •  7 years ago

As I've made clear on here several times, I try my hardest to tune out celebrities and, as a general rule, don't particularly care for them. This business with Kathy Griffin, who never was particularly funny to me and who just made CNN's New Year's shows awkward, has touched a nerve for me though.

She posted a photograph of herself holding by the hair a mock-up severed head of Donald Trump in precisely the manner of ISIS executioners in their demonic videos. How could she or anyone else be surprised that that would cause blowback? How out of touch--how isolated in cushy Hollywood--does one have to be in order to fail to connect with society like that? Many, many families over the years have had to watch online as the severed heads of their loved ones were hoisted in front of cameras by ISIS fighters. To parody that is simply disgusting and is indicative of a character flaw.

Despite the extremely insensitive and stupid nature of this "joke," cerebrally I simply cannot understand how it is even a joke. Even without the very real way in which ISIS has hurt so many people doing this very thing, how could that ever have been funny? I simply do not get the joke. What was even supposed to be remotely funny about that?

She issued a very appropriate apology immediately after the blowback, and it seemed that she understood what she had done wrong. Think again! Now she's blaming Trump for ruining her career and is bashing "old white men in positions of power." That's odd... I hadn't noticed Trump or any "old white men" order her to hoist a severed head ISIS-style in front of a camera. Interesting logic.

This just shows how unapologetic she is--except to the extent that it has hurt her career. That's what she's really sorry about. She is probably very correct that her career is over, as well it should be. Donald Trump isn't to blame for this: she is. She's a big girl. She knew what she was doing. I know that for many in Hollywood, there are no consequences for anything, but ISIS isn't a Hollywood phenomenon, and channeling their brutality in this manner does and should have consequences in the marketplace. I'm tired of this mentality that when things are going well, it's because of "me," but when things aren't going well, it's because of "you" (in this case "Trump" and "old white men").

I want to also point out that this reminds me the many hanging and burning effigies of Barack Obama I've seen on the news over the years. The people who did that are just as disgusting, stupid, and imbecilic. We should criticize them just as harshly because there should never be a double standard. This sort of insensitive stupidity and hatred must end. Anyone who does these sorts of things is the problem and cannot be a part of the solution. You are those whom our culture must defeat thoroughly.

Rules of behavior and consequences are for us peasants, not for Hollyweird celebreties, limousine liberals, or politicians...

...or so they think

I really hope they change that thinking with the low-consequences results they have been getting this year, but I fear that since they really haven't been punished, that they will keep pushing

They are supposed to be the role models with their influence and power but all I see is a bunch of rich embolden cry babies that don't even know what a days of hard work is like and then cry foul when they don't get their way.
