In her latest strategy for redirecting the speech, Disney wanted to approach the term princesses on the most positive path possible.
The Mickey company has launched a photo campaign called #DreamBigPrincess to promote stories of real-life 'princesses' that can inspire other young women. The idea, even if it is not said aloud, is to subvert the concept of the princess that perpetuates the old gender stereotypes in order to condition it to a vision of the future and female empowerment.
For this, Disney has had the help of 19 photographers from 15 different countries to capture in snapshots the stories of women and young people of the real world that can serve as inspiration for the rest of the world. Captured by acclaimed lenses of the likes of Kate T. Parker or Annie Griffiths, among some of the stars are Rong Jing, a Chinese Paralympic Fencing Fighter; Zakia Mohammadhi, a twenty-year-old who has started a cycling club in Afghanistan; Or the women's football team in England.
Disney said in its statement that for each image shared with the hashtag #DreamBigPrincess, the company will donate $ 1 to the United Nations Girl Up Foundation, which promotes the leadership and empowerment of young women around the globe. The goal is to achieve $ 1 million in total revenue.
"If you continue to tell your daughters to dream big, to try big, to think big, that will awaken their precious curiosity,"
Says Griffiths. The photographer admires that the Disney princesses "break molds, get out of stereotypes and accept challenges." Especially Bella, "who was not afraid to deal with abusers."
I think it is cool that they are trying to reach new goals and projects
