United States defense journalist Tyler Rogoway illustrates six points about the Russian Su-57 fighter jet that may be unknown to people. "For some levels the T-50 / Su-57 is a misplaced aircraft," Rogoway said on Monday, May 7, 2018.

First, the plane has a side-mounted active electronically scanned array of X-band radars, of which similar aircraft generally feature it in the nose of the aircraft.

This radar raises the situational awareness of the Su-57 fighter jet that allows it to perform special air maneuvers such as 'beaming' better than similar fighter aircraft, "according to an article published in The War Zone Monday, released Sputniknews.com, May 2, 2018.

The aircraft also features advanced infrared search and infrared 101K 'Atoll' tracking over the nose to allow the pilot to detect and fight better against enemy aircraft. The Su-57 has a "turret that fires a modulated laser beam on a missile search tool that comes to blind the opponent's missile and throw it away," added War Zone.

Like its predecessor Russian aircraft, the Su-57 is perfect for taking off and landing from the rugged airfield. The engine on the plane is capable of 3D thrust vectoring. Raising thrust vectoring with engine power proved to be difficult for Chinese engineers, who have not been able to incorporate domestic thrust-vectoring engines into the J-20 Aircraft
