Following the Christian Democratic Union of Angela Merkel, Martin Shulz, the leader of Germany's second largest party, Social Democratic Party, said he would not go to power again after the September 24 election. Apart from this, the second largest party in the election, the Social Democratic Party joined the coalition government, the third largest party in the election, the hardline right-wing Alternatives for Germany, which is considered as an opposition party in the German parliament, was not even wanted by the Social Democratic Party. However, the party is ready to form a coalition government in the crisis situation. But in the case of the formation of the coalition government, the Social Democratic Party has been able to introduce more of their grievances in the social and economic sectors than the previous alliance governments.
