"In Bed With The Devil"

I admire the journalism industry and to hear stories like this breaks my heart. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Khashoggi case; he was a Saudi Journalist with an U.S visa who traveled to a Saudi consulate in Turkey never to return. Through the weeks of him missing the narrative of his disappearance drastically changed. It went from him missing, to him being tortured, chopped up with a bone saw, and then dissolved in acid. To make matters worse the cover up was one of the worst in history. There were indications of the Crown Prince's top henchman entering the country with a bone saw and to make matters worse, they dressed up the worst Khashoggi decoy to walk out of the consulate to avoid suspicion. Now if you are the U.S, what would you do? The U.S currently has a multi billion dollar arms deal active with the Saudis and not to mention the billions of dollars worth of oil we purchase from them; It looks like the U.S will go soft on their heinous act.

US President Donald Trump has been briefed on Khashoggi's murder after a CIA assessment that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered the killing, the White House has said.

Trump discussed the CIA assessment by phone with the agency's director, Gina Haspel, and Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters on Saturday.

The CIA believes Saudi crown prince (also known as MBS), the country's de-facto ruler, ordered Khashoggi's killing.

Speaking to reporters earlier on Saturday, Trump had reiterated that he had been told MBS had not played a role in the journalist's death.

"We haven't been briefed yet," Trump said.

Trump and top administration officials have said Saudi Arabia should be held to account for any involvement in Khashoggi's death and have imposed sanctions on 17 Saudis for their role in the killing.

But they have also stressed the importance of Washington's ties with Riyadh, even while US lawmakers have called on the administration to punish Saudi Arabia over the murder.

Sanctions on 17 Saudis is a weak counter to the breaking information. Though we all knew there was 100% fowl play, we now have official reports linking the Crown Prince to the murder. Turkey was happy to provide the information condemning Saudi Arabia because lets face it, they hate each other.
  • President Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey claims himself a champion of the Arab Spring uprisings and a political Islamists.

  • Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia is on the opposite side in an ongoing ideological battle raging across the Middle East. He is the moderate-Islamist elite who helped end the revolts.

Turkey took their sweet time slowly leaking information to build the suspense and tension while isolating Saudi Arabia and keeping them current in the news. This is odd because Saudi Arabia has billions of investments in Turkey who is currently dealing with a debt crisis. Turkey needs the money and is biting a hand that feeds them by putting such pressure on MBS.

Dealing with the regions matters is always a complicated one. Some say its not Americas place to police the middle east, but we are already there. Russia and China are already poised to swoop in if any deal between the U.S and Saudi Arabia goes south. Russia is already in the area backing the Syrian regime and they would love another ally in the vicinity. Does America crack down and potentially lose a strategic partner to Russia? Or does America cradle the Saudi relationship and discipline with ease? Option two doesn't seem too ethical.

What do you think America should do? Opinions, Comments, Questions are welcome.
