Two graffiti artists painted four-dimensional (3D) pedestrian lanes on the main avenues of Eastern Spring, 239 km from Cuiabá last week. The goal is to reduce the number of accidents caused by speeding.
The artist Walyson Nogueira, known as Presto VinteTreis, who works with graphite for four years, said that the bands were painted in downtown and Avenida do Lago, in the Jardim Riva neighborhood.
According to him, a driver came down from the car to check the painting. "There was a driver who got out of the car and hit his hand on the ground to make sure it was just a painting," he said.
Presto VinteTreis said that he and his friend, known by the stage name of Babu SeteOito, were hired by the town hall to make the paintings. "The city hall saw the photos and the people liked it, so they hired us to graph the streets," he said.
He says that the technique of optical illusion causes the driver to slow down to see if he can cross the pedestrian lane, thus reducing the number of traffic accidents.
"Many drivers slow down because the tracks look like floating bars in front of them," he said.
The initiative has already been adopted in several countries aimed at reducing roadblocks such as China, India, Georgia and Iceland. The idea is to use the optical illusion as one more factor to make the driver slow down and allow passers-by.
