"Alexei Venediktov, the former editor-in-chief of the radio station Echo of Moscow, which was critical of the Kremlin before it closed during a clampdown on media freedoms, posted on X, formerly Twitter, that an interview between the pair had taken place.
"As far as I understand, Tucker Carlson got what he wanted," posted Venediktov on Tuesday in Russian. The post was shared by The Financial Times' Moscow bureau chief, Max Seddon, who wrote: "Russian journalistic gadfly Alexei Venediktov says Tucker Carlson has indeed interviewed Vladimir Putin while in Moscow."
The post was also shared by The Guardian correspondent Pjotr Sauer, who wrote: "Tucker Carlson has managed to interview Putin, according to Alexei Venediktov, the well-connected former editor of the Ekho Moskvy."
Newsweek has not independently verified the report and has contacted the Tucker Carlson Network for comment by email."

"An American who is serving in Ukraine's military has blasted conservative media personality Tucker Carlson for his visit to Russia.
"Carlson isn't just an enemy of democracy, he is an enemy of humanity itself," Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, a junior sergeant in Kyiv's armed forces, told Newsweek."
"In comments made exclusively to Newsweek, Ashton-Cirillo, who arrived in Ukraine in March 2022 to work as a journalist before enlisting in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, denounced Carlson's trip to Russia.
"Despite trying to project an alpha male attitude, Tucker Carlson has shown time and again he is simply the Kremlin's favorite court eunuch," Ashton-Cirillo said. "Tucker's inability to decipher fact from fiction makes him better suited to host a reboot of The Twilight Zone than be given the opportunity to engage in the rambling theories favored by war criminals such as Vlad Putin.""
