The Red Cross remains the most popular charity for donations in the recent Texan flood disaster. However, they have a long history of disappearing funds and shockingly poor attainment levels relative to their huge revenues.

The most obvious example of their corruption and mismanagement occurred after the earthquake in Haiti, where a fund of over $600 million was received in donations but resulted in only 6 homes being built.

Internal emails and memos released by ProPublica admit that their figures released which give an estimate of how many people they helped did not simply use very liberal arithmetic, they were 'entirely meaningless'.

An employee's view of the company's transparency and project management was equally disturbing. There apparently was "no correct process for monitoring project spending."

Generous Hearts Deserve More Honest Charities

The decision of thousands of families to give a slice of their (diminishing) disposable income to fellow human beings who are suffering is incredibly inspiring. An act of selfless humanitarian compassion should not be wasted on the greedy and unscrupulous, like the fat cats at the summit of the Red Cross.

We need to spread the message that the Red Cross is deeply corrupt so that precious donations can go to smaller and worthier causes in the future, as well as to protect the reputation of global charities.

Transparency is the key. Research the charities who give their figures and accomplishments up front, in clear numerical terms. And if you like what you see, share the word far and wide!
