White House released the following statement:
The US identified preparations at an advanced stage for another chemical weapons attack by tha Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that would likely result in mass murder of innocent civilians including children.These preparations and activities are similar to the ones that occured before its April 4 2017 chemical attack.
The United States mission in Syria is to eliminate the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria .If however the chemical attack is conducted Bashar al-Assad and his military will pay a heavy price.
The US defence officials however alluded that they were unaware the White House was planning to release its statement.They also revealed that they did not know where the potential attack would come from.The White House however did not specify what form any US retribution would take.
I'll say what I did a few months ago, Assad has a whole lot of motivation to do this right? Just as he was gaining traction with the UN, repairing his nation's reputation. It makes no sense, with all the world's eyes on him why would he do this?

Clearly establishing a "clear motive" to explain why on Earth Assad would order such an attack is not part of the US calculus - conveniently they sidestep such logical inconsistencies when fabricating their flimsy pretexts for military action.

Being an American, it adds to the distress. Clinton had a hard on for bombing Syria, and Trump seems to get his kicks from it as well. I maintain my stance that we are not the world police. Regardless of whether it's a hoax or not, Syria is a sovereign country. EU can get involved if they want but the US isn't even on the same continent. Syria poses no risk to US sovereignty.

The campaign rhetoric, "drain the swamp, America first, no business in Syria" etc. have made absolutely zero difference in policy, and business continues "as usual" . .
For those who have watched closely through successive administrations, starting with Bush Sr. where the present course was really set (Bush Sr. was a former CIA director) through Clinton, (9/11) Bush JR, Obama and now Trump, the trajectory of US foreign policy has not wavered.
The deep state has the controls of what really runs the day to day business, and sheer momentum of the Military Industrial Complex (contracts and lobby) the Israeli lobby, Intelligence community agenda, Pentagon, Wall Street, good god I could go on and on . .
But you get the point, in areas of US policy where components of the deep state have managed to find common ground, the president doesn't stand a chance of changing it . .
