ABC news is reporting that Facebook is going to work with the Israeli government to implement better censorship tools.
From the article...
The Israeli government and Facebook agreed to work together to determine how to tackle incitement on the social media network, a senior Israeli Cabinet minister said Monday.
The announcement came after two government ministers met top Facebook officials to discuss the matter. The Facebook delegation is in Israel as the government pushes ahead with legislative steps meant to force social networks to rein in content that Israel says incites violence.
Israel has argued that a wave of violence with the Palestinians over the past year has been fueled by incitement, much of it spread on social media sites. It has repeatedly said that Facebook should do more to monitor and control the content, raising a host of legal and ethical issues over whether the company is responsible for material posted by its users.
The Palestinians dismiss the Israeli allegations that the violence is caused by incitement. They say it is the result of nearly 50 years of Israeli military occupation and a lack of hope for gaining independence.
In other news William Banks deleted his Facebook account in protest of the decision while shouting...
It's not that they're working with Jews on this, that's the problem,
It's that they're being Nazis censoring anyone at all!

I can't believe someone will get one cent for each time I vote up. I can't believe so many people didn't get paid on FB... what a waste

I know right? Frankly with this and all that's been going on lately, I don't think Facebook could tempt me back even with daily cash.

Ha! I liked the second half commentary! Facebook will work with anyone that allows them to stay in their country. They will be able to present this to China in their negotiations as reassurance...

Yes that's my fear too. I'm hugely about free speech!
I'm really glad we have places that still value free speech.

Hi @williambanks
I use facebook mainly for special interest groups, e.g. Air cooled hooligans SA, which is a group for vintage vw's, here we discuss road trips and vehicles for sale and spare parts etc. There is also groups for classic motorcycles etc. I suppose this could also be added to STEEMIT, although it would have to be region specific, otherwise it will be to big, perhaps the STEEMIT developers could look at something like that, this could add a lot of value and users to STEEMIT.

I've tried to encourage my (few) fb friends to join Steemit since I started and have been met with a resounding lack of success, which is a pity. A couple have talents that would do very well here.

It can be a chore. I know. But let them know they could be actually helping other people with each upvote. See what they say about that. It seemed to work for my little core group.

Well I'm sure we can add a #happybirthday tag or something. Actually if @ned & @dantheman 's idea of verified accounts comes to pass, we'll probably all know eachother's birthday!

Verified accounts is a GREAT idea! I've had to verify my ID on several sites in the past, especially if I was getting paid for my content. Oh... well.... that kind of opens up a bag of worms to my thinking because I never thought of it until now. but is Steem considered taxable income?

I can't say or certain but...
Yes if you are asking that question then the answer is likely yes. Especially if you live in the USA.
Still you should ask your tax advisor.
